Copper Mountain Mining Corporation is a Canadian-based copper producer focused on tripling 2020 copper production by 2025, all while mining with integrity.
Copper Mountain’s flagship asset is the 75% owned Copper Mountain mine located in southern British Columbia. Copper Mountain also has the development stage Eva Copper Project in Queensland, Australia.
ESG is integral to Copper Mountain’s long-term success and is built into our strategy, which is why Copper Mountain mines with integrity and transparency. Committed to achieving the Mining Association of Canada’s (MAC) Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) standard, Copper Mountain joined MAC in 2020, with a goal of achieving, at a minimum, an ‘A’ or ‘Yes’ rating across all TSM Protocols by the end of 2021. While new members have three years to start publicly reporting and four years to externally verify their results, Copper Mountain opted to have performance results for all eight TSM Protocols externally verified and begin publicly reporting results in 2021, two years ahead of schedule.
Copper Mountain has successfully met our target of achieving an ‘A’ (or ‘Yes’) rating, or higher, for all TSM Protocols in 2021.
In 2021, Copper Mountain achieved a ‘AAA’ rating for the Aboriginal and Community Outreach Protocol and a ‘AA’ rating for both the Safety & Health Protocol and Tailings Management Protocol. Copper Mountain also achieved a ‘Yes’ rating for both the Preventing Child and Forced Labour Protocol and the Crisis Management Planning Protocol. Copper Mountain has also achieved an ‘A’ rating for the Biodiversity Conservation Management Protocol, Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Management Protocol, and Water Stewardship Protocol for 2021. All self-assessed performance results were independently and externally verified by a MAC-approved TSM Verification Service Provider (VSP), either in 2020 or 2021, to support Copper Mountain’s accelerated implementation timeline and in preparation to begin publicly reporting in 2021.
In addition, Copper Mountain has been selected by the Community of Interest (COI) Advisory Panel to participate in a Post-Verification Review. This will provide Copper Mountain the opportunity to present and discuss our verified results with the Panel in an open and transparent dialogue to help drive continuous improvement on ESG performance both at our facility and within the mining industry.
