THE VOICE OF THE CANADIAN

MINING INDUSTRY SINCE 1935

IAMGOLD Corporation

IAMGOLD is a mid-tier mining company with three operating gold mines in three continents. A solid base of strategic assets in North and South America and West Africa is complemented by development and exploration projects and continued assessment of accretive acquisition opportunities. IAMGOLD is in a strong financial position with extensive management and operational expertise.

Guided by the vision to achieve Zero Harm, IAMGOLD conducts mining activities with a commitment to reaching the highest standards in human health and safety, minimizing impacts on the environment, and working cooperatively with host communities. The Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative is strongly embedded in IAMGOLD’s Sustainability Standard, operating practices and pursuit of excellence.

IAMGOLD has participated in the TSM initiative in Canada and at the company’s international operations since 2007. This 2020 self-assessment as well as the external verification of that assessment highlighted several opportunities for continuous improvement.

TSM PROTOCOLS

Aboriginal and Community Outreach

Essakane and Rosebel Mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed Level AAA across all four indicators. Westwood Mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level A across all four indicators of this protocol. All of our operations are actively in the process of implementing the new TSM Indigenous and Community Relationships protocol. All of our sites will be self-assessing against this new protocol next year.

Energy and GHG Emissions Management

Essakane and Rosebel Mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed Level C across all three indicators of this protocol. This protocol was assessed not to be applicable to Westwood as the facility does not meet the GHG emissions materiality threshold (25,000 tonnes of CO2) with the exception of indicator 2, which was assessed at a Level A. In September 2021, IAMGOLD announced an ambitious plan to achieve net negative emissions by 2050. The details of the plan can be found here. As part of this comprehensive action to combat climate change, IAMGOLD is undertaking an external verification of our energy and GHG emissions management and reporting systems. A detailed roadmap on our path to negative emissions and net positive biodiversity will be published by late 2022. An action plan is being created to remedy any gaps identified by the 2020 external verification exercise. Further, IAMGOLD’s 2020 emissions data can be found on the TSM website.

Tailings Management

All three mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed level C across all five indicators of this protocol. IAMGOLD has hired an external consulting firm to conduct a gap assessment on level of compliance with the new TSM tailings protocol and the effectiveness of current policies and procedures at all three of our sites. This assessment generated an action plan to improve governance and management of tailings tailored to each site for implementation by 2022.

Biodiversity Conservation Management

Westwood and Rosebel Mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed Level C across all three indicators. Essakane Mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level A across all three indicators of this protocol. IAMGOLD is conducting a gap assessment to generate an action plan to improve planning, implementation communication of this protocol across all of our sites. As referenced in the Energy and GHG Emissions section above, IAMGOLD has committed to achieving net positive biodiversity – the Company will specify its expected timing to achieve this global objective in the roadmap that will be published in late 2022 on our emissions strategy. The details of the plan can be found here.

Safety and Health

Essakane and Rosebel Mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed Level A across all five indicators. Westwood Mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level B across all five indicators of this protocol. IAMGOLD announced temporary reduction of the underground workforce (approximately 70% of the underground workforce) at our Westwood mine in 2020. Westwood went into care and maintenance at the beginning of the pandemic as mining was not deemed to be an essential economic activity by the Government of Quebec and later the mine suspended its operations due to seismic events. As a result of these events, there were gaps in the implementation of the safety and health protocol. An action plan has been created to remedy those gaps.

Crisis Management and Communications Planning

Essakane mine and Corporate was assessed as a “yes” in 2020 across all three indicators. Westwood was assessed as “yes” for crisis management and communications preparedness and training and “no” for indicator 2. Rosebel was assessed as “yes” for crisis management and communications preparedness and training and “no” for indicators 2 and 3. Due to the start of the pandemic in 2020, regular training and review of crisis management plans did not take place as planned as our sites were actively managing COVID-19 related risks to our operations. Action plans and remedies are being implemented in 2021 to ensure full compliance with this protocol.

Preventing Child and Forced Labour

All three mines were assessed in 2020 to have processes in place to meet the requirements of this protocol.

Water Stewardship

All three mines were assessed in 2020 to meet or exceed level C across all four indicators of this protocol. IAMGOLD has hired an external consulting firm to conduct a gap assessment on level of compliance with the new TSM water stewardship protocol and the effectiveness of current policies and procedures at all three of our sites. This assessment generated an action plan to improve governance and management of water tailored to each site for implementation by 2022.
