Newmont Corporation

Newmont Mining Corporation and Goldcorp Inc. combined in April 2019 to form the world’s leading gold company as measured by assets, prospects and people.

Newmont has actively operating mines in Argentina, Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Mexico, Peru, Suriname and the US, and a robust exploration and project pipeline further strengthens our global portfolio. With nearly a 100-year history in the mining industry, our purpose is to create value and improve lives through sustainable and responsible mining. Our strategy is to lead the gold sector in creating value for shareholders and other stakeholders by delivering superior operational execution; sustaining a global portfolio of long-life assets, and leading in profitability and responsibility.

Our values of Safety, Integrity, Sustainability, Inclusion, and Responsibility reflect our commitment to act responsibly as individuals and as a business. We are powered by a core belief that our people are as important as the assets we operate. We are committed to the responsible management of resources such as land, air quality, water and biodiversity, as well as putting the health and safety of our people first.

Newmont and TSM

All of Newmont’s three Canadian operating sites, as well as the North America Regional Office in Vancouver actively participate in TSM. Our Canadian operating sites include Musselwhite and Porcupine in Ontario, as well as Éléonore in Quebec.

In 2019, the Vancouver Head Office (now the North America Regional Office), and Musselwhite, Porcupine and Red Lake (sold in 2020) mines underwent third-party verification of their 2018 TSM results. This was the first time these sites have been externally verified along their TSM performance. Éléonore also completed a self-assessment of its 2018 results and underwent its first third-party verification in 2017. External verification was performed by EY.

Newmont had strong results across all seven TSM protocols in 2018. Areas of strength included the Aboriginal and Community Outreach Protocol, the Safety and Health Protocol and the Tailings Management Protocol, where all of Newmont’s Canadian sites received an ‘A’ ranking or higher.

Areas for improvement include the Crisis Management and Communications Planning Protocol at all sites and the Energy Use and GHG Emissions Management Protocol at Porcupine and Red Lake. Newmont continues to strive to improve its level of performance along TSM.
