The Mining Association of Canada | The Canadian Mining Story: Economic Impacts and Drivers for the Global Energy Transition 2023 65 In 2021, Canada’s top exports were gold, iron and steel, aluminum, iron ore and copper. The value of domestic exports of these and other minerals and mineral products in 2021 are presented in Annex 8. IMPORTS Canada imported $107 billion of minerals and metals, including coal, in 2021. This is an increase of $23 billion from 2017 as shown in Figure 2. About 44% of these imports were from the United States, and 12% were from China, the next largest source. As with exports, the value of imports spiked in 2021 as a result of high commodity prices.
