L\u2019\u00e9olienne et l\u2019installation de stockage de l\u2019\u00e9nergie \u2014 la premi\u00e8re au Canada \u2014 ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre de la mine; elles peuvent maintenant r\u00e9volutionner la production d\u2019\u00e9nergie dans l\u2019Arctique. \u00c9tablie sur un plateau \u00e0 600 m d\u2019altitude dans la p\u00e9ninsule d\u2019Ungava, la Mine Raglan de Glencore est bien plac\u00e9e pour tirer parti de la puissance du vent. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment ce qu\u2019a fait la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, en 2014, lorsqu\u2019elle a achev\u00e9 la construction d\u2019une \u00e9olienne de 120 m de hauteur dot\u00e9e d\u2019une installation de stockage de l\u2019\u00e9nergie. Comme la plupart des autres mines du Nord, la Mine Raglan, qui se trouve hors r\u00e9seau, d\u00e9pendait beaucoup du diesel pour son fonctionnement. Compte tenu des changements climatiques, de son engagement \u00e0 limiter les impacts environnementaux et de la hausse des prix du p\u00e9trole, Glencore avait tout avantage, sur le plan \u00e9conomique, \u00e0 explorer les solutions en mati\u00e8re d\u2019\u00e9nergie renouvelable. Ce projet, d\u2019une envergure sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent, \u00e9tait sp\u00e9cialement con\u00e7u pour permettre de r\u00e9sister aux conditions climatiques rigoureuses qui s\u00e9vissent dans l\u2019Arctique. Il \u00e9tait le fruit d\u2019un partenariat public-priv\u00e9 entre la Mine Raglan, TUGLIQ \u00c9nergie et les gouvernements f\u00e9d\u00e9ral et provincial. Les communaut\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 consult\u00e9es durant le projet et leurs commentaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mis \u00e0 profit par l\u2019entreprise. Depuis sa mise en service en ao\u00fbt 2014, l\u2019\u00e9olienne de 3 MW a permis d\u2019\u00e9conomiser 7,5 millions de litres de diesel et de r\u00e9duire de 21 kilotonnes les \u00e9missions de gaz \u00e0 effet de serre. La r\u00e9ussite du projet pilote pourrait amener des changements partout dans le Nord canadien, et ouvrir la voie \u00e0 l\u2019adoption g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e de solutions \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques plus \u00e9cologiques. Cette \u00e9olienne et son syst\u00e8me de stockage parfaitement au point et test\u00e9s pourraient \u00eatre reproduits dans les communaut\u00e9s autochtones et d\u2019autres exploitations mini\u00e8res du Nord. Le projet a remport\u00e9 <a href=\"\/fr\/vers-le-developpement-minier-durable\/prix-dexcellence-vdmd\/prix-dexcellence-vdmd-2016\/\">le prix VDMD en excellence environnementale<\/a> de l\u2019AMC en 2016. En f\u00e9vrier 2019, TUGLIQ \u00c9nergie a franchi un jalon important. L\u2019\u00e9olienne install\u00e9e et exploit\u00e9e par TUGLIQ \u00e0 la Mine Raglan a cumul\u00e9 plus de 10 millions de litres de diesel et 28 000 tonnes de CO2 \u00e9vit\u00e9s dans l\u2019Arctique canadien, ayant produit 40 GWh d\u2019\u00e9nergie propre depuis 2014.
