THE VOICE OF THE CANADIAN

MINING INDUSTRY SINCE 1935

Description of Phase-in of Updates to the Tailings Management Component of TSM

The documents that comprise the tailings management component of TSM were updated in two stages:

2017

  • Tailings Management Protocol revised
  • Third edition of the Tailings Guide
  • Table of Conformance introduced, replacing the 2011 Guide to Audit and Assessment of Tailings Facility Management

2019

  • Tailings Management Protocol revised
  • Version 3.1 of the Tailings Guide
  • Second edition of the OMS Guide
  • Table of Conformance revised

As a result of the updates being completed in two stages, and to give MAC members adequate time to ensure that their tailings management systems, OMS manuals, emergency preparedness measures and other practices are aligned with the 2017 and 2019 versions of the documents, there is a two-step phase-in period.
