Hecla Québec
Hecla Québec is a division of Hecla Mining Company, a major American silver producer founded in 1891. Under the banner of Hecla Québec, the company owns the Casa Berardi mine located in Northern Quebec.
Responsible Mining: a Fundamental Value
At Hecla Québec, corporate social responsibility is based on three pillars: health and safety for our workers, community involvement and respect for the environment. These are also the three elements that define how we do business and who we are.
The Casa Berardi mine is situated 95 kilometres north of La Sarre, Quebec and straddles a 37 kilometre section of the Casa Berardi fault.
The mine has produced approximately 1.9 million recovered gold ounces since commencing production in 1988, including about 931,244 recovered ounces since production recommenced in November 2006.
Hecla Québec believes that a strong sustainability framework is fundamental to its long-term success. The company has implemented the TSM Guiding Principles in order to meet or exceed industry best practices and to continuously improve on its social, environmental, and health and safety performance.
Hecla Québec is committed to continuous improvement and has put measures in place to continue pursuing excellence in all areas. In 2020, the company aims to improve its performance in the area of tailings management and in biodiversity conservation management.
