This commitment drives New Gold to seek out those standards, protocols and performance indicators that assist our operations in achieving these goals.

The Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Initiative

New Gold uses TSM as a tool to evaluate and disclose our performance, as we strive for continuous improvement across all our facilities. In 2025, both New Afton and Rainy River maintained or improved their performance across almost all indicators. Both facilities performed self-assessments in 2025, with New Afton most recently completing an external verification in 2024 and Rainy River scheduled for its next external verification in 2026.

New Afton has reported in alignment with TSM for over decade, having commenced operations and initiated its first TSM reporting cycle in 2013. Since then, the facility has consistently demonstrated strong performance across TSM protocols. In 2025, New Afton maintained a strong performance, once again achieving AAA ratings across all indicators in Tailings Management and Water Stewardship. Performance in the Safety & Health protocol also improved, resulting in AAA ratings across all indicators.

In 2023, New Afton received the TSM Environmental Excellence Award for the continuous commitment and improvement in energy and greenhouse gas emissions management and in 2025 received AA rating across all indicators for the Climate Change protocol.

Rainy River has been implementing TSM since 2018 and completed its first external verification in 2023, achieving outstanding results, particularly in Tailings Management and Water Stewardship. In 2025, Rainy River maintained or further improved its performance, once again receiving AAA ratings across all indicators in the Tailings Management and Water Stewardship protocols, and increasing its rating in the Indigenous and Community Relationships protocol to AAA across all indicators.
