Copper Mountain Mining Corporation is a Canadian-based copper producer focused on mining with integrity. The Copper Mountain mine, the Company’s flagship asset, is located in southern British Columbia, and produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent per year.
ESG is integral to Copper Mountain’s long-term success and is built into our strategy, which is why Copper Mountain mines with integrity and transparency. Committed to the Mining Association of Canada’s (MAC) Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) standard, Copper Mountain joined MAC in 2020 and achieved an ‘A’ or ‘Yes’ rating across all TSM Protocols in 2021. Copper Mountain has successfully met our target of achieving an ‘A’ (or ‘Yes’) rating, or higher, for all TSM Protocols in 2022 as well.
Copper Mountain achieved a ‘AAA’ rating for the Safety & Health Protocol and a ‘AA’ rating for the Tailings Management Protocol. Copper Mountain also achieved a ‘Yes’ rating for both the Preventing Child and Forced Labour Protocol and the Crisis Management Planning Protocol. Copper Mountain has also achieved an ‘A’ rating for the Biodiversity Conservation Management Protocol, Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Management Protocol, Indigenous and Community Relations Protocol and Water Stewardship Protocol for 2022.
Compared to 2021, Copper Mountain maintained or improved its rating in all the Protocols in 2022 except the Indigenous and Community Relations Protocol. We have identified opportunities for improvement as per the requirements of the updated protocol and are strengthening our mechanisms for taking feedback on our engagement processes and reviewing effectiveness.
Although the requirements for the Safety & Health Protocol increased in 2022, we improved our rating in this protocol as an external audit was conducted to ensure that our health and safety commitment, management system implementation, and performance reporting are consistent with the intent of MAC Safety and Health Framework and meets all the requirements of the protocol.
