THE VOICE OF THE CANADIAN

MINING INDUSTRY SINCE 1935

IAMGOLD Corporation

IAMGOLD is a mid-tier mining company with three operating gold mines in three continents. A solid base of strategic assets in North and South America and West Africa is complemented by development and exploration projects and continued assessment of accretive acquisition opportunities. IAMGOLD is in a strong financial position with extensive management and operational expertise.

Guided by the vision to achieve Zero Harm, IAMGOLD conducts mining activities with a commitment to reaching the highest standards in human health and safety, minimizing impacts on the environment, and working cooperatively with host communities. The Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) initiative is strongly embedded in IAMGOLD’s Sustainability Standard, operating practices and pursuit of excellence.

IAMGOLD has participated in the TSM initiative in Canada and at the company’s international operations since 2007. This year’s self-assessment and the 2018 external verification highlighted several opportunities for continuous improvement. IAMGOLD will be undergoing external verification of the company’s 2020 TSM performance of IAMGOLD-managed operations and corporate head office in 2021.

TSM PROTOCOLS

Aboriginal and Community Outreach

Essakane and Rosebel Mines were assessed in 2019 to meet or exceed Level AAA across all four indicators. Westwood Mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level A across all four indicators of this protocol.

Energy and GHG Emissions Management

All three mines were assessed in 2019 to meet or exceed Level AA across all three indicators of this protocol. Specifically, Essakane Mine was assessed at a Level AAA across all three indicators. IAMGOLD’s 2019 GHG emissions data, which is published on the TSM website, will include Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions for the first time. IAMGOLD has committed in its annual sustainability report to reduce its carbon footprint and plans to establish a defined action plan by 2025 to achieve net zero emissions targets. In addition, IAMGOLD has further committed to implement sources of renewable energy in three out of our five main operations by 2025 including commissioning a solar plant at our Boto Gold project. Note that Westwood did not report on Indicator 3 of this protocol because the facility does not meet the GHG emissions materiality threshold (25,000 tonnes of CO2).

Tailings Management

Westwood and Rosebel Mine were assessed in 2019 to meet or exceed Level B across all five indicators of this protocol. Essakane Mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level A across all five indicators. IAMGOLD hired an external consulting firm to conduct a gap assessment on level of compliance with the new TSM tailings protocol and the effectiveness of current policies and procedures at all three of our sites. This assessment generated an action plan to improve governance and management of tailings tailored to each site for implementation by 2021.

Biodiversity Conservation Management

All three mines were assessed in 2019 to meet or exceed Level A across the three indicators in this protocol. Specifically, Essakane mine was assessed to meet or exceed Level AAA across all three indicators. IAMGOLD is focused on enhancing facility level biodiversity management plans.

Safety and Health

All three mines were assessed to meet or exceed Level A across the five indicators in this protocol in 2019. We have continued implementation of the Mind Body Achievement program by Axiom in order to increase health and safety awareness at all of our sites. Health and safety performance has improved across the organization since 2018 and we expect an upward trajectory for our health and safety performance for 2020 and beyond.

Crisis Management and Communications Planning

All three mines and corporate were assessed as “yes” in 2019 for the three indicators with the exception of indicators 2 and 3 for Rosebel Mine. An action plan to address gaps is underway.

Preventing Child and Forced Labour

All three mines were assessed in 2019 to have processes in place to meet the requirements of this protocol.
